TRANSITIONAL EMPLOYMENT
The Transitional Employment program provides members with part time, short-term work experience with full support from Harbor House staff. These jobs are dedicated Harbor House positions paid by the employer at competitive wages. Members hold these jobs for six to nine months working 15-20 hours a week, after which a new member is placed into the job.
Harbor House staff provide all placement, on-the-job training, and job supports. Harbor House guarantees the position is filled daily. If a member is unable to work, a qualified member or Harbor House staff will fill in to cover the duties. If a staff person covers the day it is at no cost to the employer.
SUPPORTED/INDEPENDENT EMPLOYMENT
Members who move into the Supported/Independent Employment Program receive individualized support from a job coach; regular assessment of career goals; training in resume writing, interview techniques and employee relations; and help securing a competitive job.
Job coaches help members find their own community job. Members receive as much or as little support as they need. Their job coach checks in to make sure everything is going well. After a members gets a job, job coaches are available to help them mediate with supervisors, assist with additional training or simply to provide behind the scenes supports.
Members are also invited to monthly employment support dinners after work hours. These provide an educational program, networking and peer support.
